Fresh Project: Henry Miller’s Theatre

Henry Miller’s Theatre in New York City opens tonight to much fanfare with the first preview performance of “Bye Bye Birdie.” Working closely with the architects, Cook+Fox, C&G; Partners created a sign program for this state of the art theater housed behind a restored landmark facade.

The journey from street-level to the orchestra three stories below has been designed as a choreographed descent, accented with artifacts from the theater’s original interiors and concise, well-placed wayfinding.

Signs are held in place with the same clips that hold artifact fragments, and lighting echoes the lighting for the objects.

The theater was done as part of the firm’s engagement with the Durst Organization on the One Bryant Park/Bank of America Tower project.
